IV-V cc. BC. Xenophon mentioned a fictional battle order of the Persian army in his writing “Cyropaedia” (written in the early 4th century BC) and supposed that it was typical during the reign of Cyrus the Great. First two lines consisted of heavy footmen and were followed by two lines of “takabara” warriors with javelins and two lines of archers. Archer wears a long chiton with webbings, patterns ad gold plates. A typical Median felt hat is on his head. He is armed with bow and dagger; there is also a quiver with arrows on his back.
