Assyrian Archer

IV-V cc. BC. There were common and compound bows. Common ones were made of the whole piece of wood 1.5 m long (usually ash or dogwood/cornus). Compound bows were shorter and were made of wood, animals’ horns and tendons. The bowstrings (made of tendons of oxen or wild goats) were elastic and strong. The archer is in tunic with decorations and fringes. He has sacle armor with leather pteruges. A quiver with galloons and metal plates is on his back and a dagger with wide leather strap on the belt.
